Today, we welcome Broadbridge Heath FC to The Homelands, for our last game of what’s been a rocky 2023/24 season, to say the least.
This fixture is also one for the history books, for a couple of reasons.
Today will mark the first time in both clubs history, that the nuts & bolts have hosted the bears.
As the sale of Ashford United edges ever closer to completion. We reach a significant chapter of that process.
Today will be the 705th and last competitive match that Don Crosbie will oversee as club owner and director.
With neither team having anything to play for. We hope today can be a relaxed, enjoyable and well contested match.
It’s been a mixed season of results for both teams, as they struggled to find and consistency throughout.
Broadbridge went on a 4 game unbeaten league run in January. Which started with a crazy 6-6 draw versus Merstham.
Then a 6 game unbeaten run, which very nearly see them go unbeaten throughout March. Only to be beaten at home by Cray on the last weekend of the month.
Their heaviest defeat of the season, 4-0, came at the hands of Horndean, back in February.
Two 4-0 away wins against Phoenix & Beckenham, were the bears biggest wins.
Overall, a very solid mid table finish for their first season in the league. Which started with two solid 2-2 draws against Sheppey and potential league champions, Cray Valley PM.
The Nuts & Bolts managed a 4 game unbeaten league run, late October, early November last year. Which consisted of 3 straight wins and a 1-1 draw at home to Hythe.
East Grinstead served up a 6-0 home win, for United’s biggest defeat of the season.
The 4-1 home win on December 30th versus Erith, was the biggest league win for United.
The first ever away fixture between United & Broadbridge, was scheduled for December 9th. But was postponed.
Fast forward a month to a cold Tuesday, January 9th evening. The bears and the Nuts & Bolts finally meet. Broadbridge secured all three points, winning 1-0.
From the squad of fifteen that travelled that evening. Only five players remain at United.
Jonah, Brand, Carney, Draycott & Ozobia.
Two of which are unavailable today.
So for one last time this season. Let’s make some noise and get behind the boys.
COYNAB!!
