F.A. CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND
ASHFORD UNITED 2 BECKENHAM TOWN 3
By Keith Masters
Beckenham Town went through to the last Preliminary Round of the FA Cup with a victory over Ashford United.
Beckenham had the best of the early exchanges. Ashford gradually came into the game and should have scored when Danny Parish was put through clear on goal but, Nick Blue, in the Beckenham goal saved well.
Parish had another attempt brilliantly saved by Blue.
Ashford went ahead in the 34th minute. Akrofi sent over a hard cross from the right hand side which Rob Carter of Beckenham only succeeded in heading the ball into his own net.
Beckenham equalised in the 42nd minute. Anthony Adensite, on the right, sent in an ambitious cross which completely deceived Russell and ended up in the far corner of the net.
Ashford gained the lead just after half time through Tom Carlse, who after a fine run from the half way line crashed the ball beyond Blue’s reach.
Beckenham then took control of the match and goals by George Goodwin in the 49th minute and Dieki Falade on the hour secured their place in Monday’s draw.
