The Sao Tome international played with Haywards Heath Town last season and led them to a play-off spot before securing a move to Hastings in the Premier Division.

Carvalho, 25, is a versatile forward who can play on either side whilst also able to take up a role as a wing-back or a striker if needed.

The club fended off strong interest in the forward before he committed to the Nuts & Bolts.

“I have been chasing Gil since last season when he was with Haywards Heath. He then left and I tried to sign him again in pre-season but he opted for Hastings.” Warrilow said.

“It’s obviously not nice when you don’t get what you want, but you can’t jump up and down and you have to accept these players’ decisions. Henry Muggeridge is another good example of this and we were patient.

“Gil already knows a few of the boys here. He trained well on Thursday night and likes what we’re doing on and off the pitch, so it’s exciting times for Ashford because he’s buying into that.

“He’s a good lad as well which is key for me when I make new signings. A popular boy in the changing room and a fantastic addition to achieve the goals we’ve set out for. I’m delighted to have Gil on board.” He finished.

Gil will be available to face Cray Valley PM tomorrow afternoon.
