Ashford United is pleased to announce the signing of Michael Uwezu from Burgess Hill Town FC this morning.

The 31-year old forward started off his career at Arsenal before making a move to Fulham. Uwezu, who can play anywhere across the final third, has also had spells with Lincoln City, Northampton and Forest Green Rovers.

A trip to Sweden saw him join FC Linköping City but since being back in England has played with East Grinstead and most recently, Burgess Hill.

Speaking on his arrival, Ashford boss Tommy Warrilow has issued high praise as he adds to his attacking ranks.

“Michael [Uwezu] boasts plenty of experience and has a league upbringing to be proud of, so he will be a brilliant addition to our attack.” He said.

“He can play as the nine, ten and on either wing too so it brings great versatility which we will be able to utilise next season.

“I am looking forward to working with him in pre-season so that he can adjust himself to how we want to play.” Warrilow finished.

Michael Uwezu lives local to the Homelands Stadium and choosing to join the Nuts & Bolts required no hesitation.

“It’s a very good feeling to be able to sign for this football club, especially with the fact I am a local lad.” Uwezu said.

“I spoke with the Gaffer and he explained to me the plan for the future, what he expects of me and the club’s ambitions. It didn’t take much convincing.

“Obviously I know that over the last couple of season Ashford has come close to going up and next season the target will not change – promotion will be our challenge.

“Every team has their goals and every player has their own individual targets, so my personal aim is to contribute everything I can to help align everybody’s expectations.

“I am a team player so I am willing to play wherever the manager asks of me and I can guarantee that I’ll give everything in that position and deliver. Football, for me, is about the brains and I cannot wait to get started.” He finished.
