Ashford United was brought down to earth with a bang by Phoenix Sports in the league match on Saturday 16th October 2023.
Ashford, having scored 11 goals in the last two matches found themselves behind in just two minutes when, a speculative cross, by Kieran King found its way into the net.
The visitors almost scored a second a few minutes later nut a timely intervention by Bradley Simms kept the score at 0-1.
Ashford then pressurised the Phoenix goal. Efforts by Mason Saunders-Henry, Noah Carney, Rhyle Ovenden and Danny Parish either went close or were well saved by goalkeeper Walker.
Ashford began the second half well.
Just 2 minutes after the restart Noah Carney after some good work on the right hand side hit the post, Lanre Azeez went close and Harvey Brand had an effort well saved.
Ashford equalised in the 63rd minute by Harvey Brand.
Five minutes later Alfie Eldridge restored Phoenix’s lead. Lanre Azeez equalised then Mason Saunders-Henry gave Ashford the lead.
Ashdon Day levelled the score for Phoenix then goals by Alfie Evans and Isaac Thompson in the last 9 minutes of normal time secured the points.
A disappointing day for the Nuts and Bolts but there were positives which could be taken from the game.
Ashford’s next match is the FA Trophy match at Metropolitan Police on Saturday next.
