Ashford Charity Trophy
Lolzors FC 6 v 3 Ashford United 3rds
We lost a good game to Premier Divison team Lolzors on Sunday morning but we lost the game playing good football from start to finish.
You can sometimes come away from a match feeling down and thoroughly fed up with football but I actually feel quite the opposite.
We had travelled to the match with a make shift defence as both of our center backs were unavailable.
These positions were filled by strikers Rhys Hodges and also Steve Warren, with full backs Sam Wood and Matt Williamson completing the back line.
What was so pleasing and encouraging was the way the younger players performed. Man of the Match Craig Hagley, Zak Hankin, Joe Heathcote and Jordan Price played excellent for the team and showed that they are now ready to be regulars.
Brett Moncrieff performed well in midfield alongside a dominant Lloyd Fuller. The position of striker was shared by Craig Hagley who scored twice Matt Jarvis who got one and Benn Phillips who came on for the last 20 minutes and was unlucky with a header which scraped the top of the bar.
I must mention Joe Heathcote’s assist for one of Craig Hagley’s goal it was an excellent ball.
Others who I have not yet mentioned but also had top games were Gregg Moncrieff who shared the goal-keeping responsibilities with Jon Philo.
Two others who had good games were starting Centre Back Liam Overy who was forced off with an injury and Alessandro Davitti who began the game in centre midfield.
All in all I was pleased with the commitment and effort showed by these players. Excellent game, well played guys.
